As you can see, there are many different types of crests and there is no 'official' format. The important items are the motto and the symbol in the center. Those two items determine the clan. Tartan fabric available for purchase through Clan Mackay:
Available fabric is a cotton/poly blend in the “Ancient” tartan color. Fabric is 60” wide and can be purchased by the yard. Cost, including shipping, is $10 per yard.
