A museum in a remote
Highlands strath is planning to stage a virtual gathering of the local
clan.
The
Strathnaver Museum in north Sutherland hopes to overcome the obstacle of
distance by inviting Mackays to send
in photographs of themselves.
Individuals and clan societies around the world have been invited to
take part in the event.
The images will form a gallery in an event called Clan Mackay Goes
Global at the museum on 2 May, 2009.
The display of photographs will also be available online.

It is being staged during the national
Show Scotland events weekend and
Homecoming Scotland with funding from
Museums Galleries Scotland.
Strathnaver was among the areas of the Highlands and Islands affected by
the clearances of the 18th century.
The museum is in the strath's former St. Columba church, which was built
in 1700.
Frances Gunn, museum director, said the virtual gathering will be held
in the building's Mackay Room, adding:
'The museum wishes to develop stronger links with Mackays all over the
county, country and the world with the
aim of bringing together this dispersed group of people with common
ancestral links to create a focal point for
all within the museum.'
