Arizona Commissioners Douglas and Mary Ann McKay with their Daughter, Susie, shown on the left.
Douglas and Mary Ann McKay
have been co-commissioners for the state of Arizona since November 2001.
Mary Ann has been working on the family
genealogy for several years and in 2000, they took a 21 day trip to Scotland
and London to trace some of their ancestors. Douglas had just found that he was descended from John, the
second Lord Reay, so they were eager to see the far northern Highlands of
Scotland and get a feel of that land.
Upon returning to
Arizona, they started attending the games and could find no Clan Mackay tent. They contacted Dan Norris, then
National vice-president and Chief of Commissioners, of Clan Mackay, USA, and he
gave them the names of the current commissioners. For various reasons, they were ready to turn over the tent
for someone else to run. When
Douglas and Mary Ann picked up the tent and supplies at their home in Tucson,
they were asked to keep the stuff after the Tucson Festival.
They put up the clan tent at the games
in Tucson in November, the Flagstaff Celtic Festival in July (a wonderful time
to spend a weekend in cool Flagstaff), and the Mesa Highland Games in February.
In Flagstaff last summer, the Clan
Mackay tent won the first prize for the best clan tent with the judging based
on materials offered, the discussion about the clan and, friendliness.
