History of Clan Mackay in Art
FLODDEN, 1513
| The Chief of Mackays, Aodh (Hugh) Mackay, was named by King James IV (the Forth) as Lord of Strathnaver when he was ordered to bring his men to fight at the battle of Flodden. The battle was a disaster to the Scots. James IV gave up a strong position on the high ground when his Chivalry was called to question. He gave up his position to fight on the low ground and was on foot surrounded by his Earls and Knights, most of which were killed along with their King. | ![]() |
