Clan Mackay USA
2008 Annual General Meeting

Saturday August 29
Pleasanton Highland Games, Pleasanton, CA

This year’s Annual General Meeting took place on the last weekend
in August at the Pleasanton Highland Games in Pleasanton, CA
and it was one of the most successful in recent memory.
Early Saturday an active board meeting saw some significant changes enacted,
including a new dues structure (see page 8) that will simplify
the dues process for all members. A clan banquet took place later
the same evening, where Society members gathered from all over
the country, including two of our members who visited us from
Glasgow, Scotland (see page 8). The congregation was treated to
an evening rich in Scottish history, culture, and entertainment.

Clan historian Ken Bain began the festivities in traditional Scottish
form with a recitation of Robert Burns’ classic Address to a Haggis,
after which of course the haggis was consumed (with varying
degrees of enthusiasm) by those in attendance. Clan members were
also treated to a musical performance by Scottish singer songwriter
Peter Daldry, historical storytelling and reflection by Ken Bain, and
a traditional highland dance performance by our clan’s own award
winning dancer Autumn Clemons. A special thanks goes out to
Barb and Dean MacKay and the Western Region commissioners
for organizing a celebration those present won’t soon forget.
Many of our members are already looking forward to our 2009
gathering in Livonia, MI, and we hope to see you there.
